Who uses Zopa?
We're the UK's largest peer-to-peer lender. Over 63,000 people trust Zopa to grow their money, more than any other peer-to-peer lending site.
Our lenders come from all walks of life, and all over the country and have different lending goals - some are looking to save towards a specific purchase, some use Zopa as part of a diversified portfolio of investments, whilst others use Zopa as a way of generating additional income.
Meet our lenders
Whilst on average, Zopa lenders have invested £6,200 and started off lending just over £1,500, there is no average customer at Zopa.
You can start lending from as little as £10 (but remember that to achieve compound growth you need to re-invest monthly repayments in at least £10 micro-loans) whilst some lenders have millions in Zopa.
In September we met Kim from Surrey
Kim joined Zopa a few months before the '07 credit crunch and still finds great pleasure in showing her Zopa statement to her once reluctant accountant husband.

Amount in Zopa: £2,300
I was introduced to Zopa by a friend, and I really enjoy using it, it gives me a great safe and secure way to save my money and watch it grow so that eventually I will be able to use it towards a deposit for a house. It's also great to know I can help those in need of a loan for whatever their needs.
Karina, 34, from London
Amount in Zopa: £700
I started saving with Zopa to diversify my overall financial portfolio. High street banks have no competitive offers, and with an exposure to the stock market already through ISAs, saving with Zopa is a good middle ground for me: medium term savings with a medium amount of risk. An extra element is knowing that, by offering my unspent money at the end of the month, I am helping someone buy or do something that is really important to them. Saving and investing with a conscience, if you will.
Patrick, 65, from Belfast
Amount in Zopa: £16,000
I've managed to get some cash from a private pension and wanted to put it into a scheme for my two grandchildren. It was obvious that Zopa offered the long term savings solution at a great rate and was too good to miss. My money is happily ticking away earning a high rate of interest compared to what is offered by the banks. This money will be for them when they need it and they would applaud the idea of peer to peer lending.
Trusted by financial institutions
Whilst individuals account for c. 62% of funds in Zopa’s loan book, we also have a variety of financial institutions that lend money through Zopa, from hedge funds to banks. We treat institutions just like individual lenders, there's no cherry picking of loans and they get the same basket of loans as we offer to individuals.
However we're proud to have more institutional funding than any other peer-to-peer lender in the UK - we see it as a sign of validation of Zopa, and our 53,000 individual lenders.
